THE TRUTH - what a c section is REALLY like*⠀
..⠀
1. One minute you're pregnant, then a sheet goes up, a baby comes out, and suddenly you're a parent. .⠀

2. You may feel sick throughout a c section due to the meds -but just tell the anaesthetist and he can give you anti sickness drugs that work immediately⠀
.⠀

3. You will still bleed (through your vagina) after a c section as you would a normal birth. Get those huge sanitary towels ready!! .⠀

4. It happens REALLY quickly -From the time the spinal kicked in, to the time I was looking at my son, was probably less than five minutes. .⠀

6. You may get the shakes during and after the surgery. This is completely normal and is just your body reacting to the spinal block. It will stop once the spinal wear off.⠀
.⠀

7. You might feel REALLY cold during delivery. between being numb from the waist down and lying still for 30 minutes half-naked, it’s no wonder mums tend to catch a chill.⠀
.⠀
8. There will be LOTS of people in the operating theatre. Your obstetrician, nurses, the anaesthetist, midwives....it will feel like a very busy place.⠀
.⠀

9. When your have your spinal block (which doesn’t hurt AT ALL by the way) your Bottom goes warm and then your Legs start to tingle then you can’t feel them.⠀
.⠀

10. You can feel movement when they do the c sections but nothing painful in anyway. You will feel slight pressure in your upper chest when they deliver the baby but again it’s not uncomfortable and lasts seconds.⠀
.⠀

11. You may be rocked from one side to the other when they give you the spinal just to make sure it distributes evenly.⠀
.⠀

12. You may itch a bit (all over your body) after the anaesthetic but they can give you some antihistamines to stop it⠀
.⠀

13. You will be given blood thinning injections for 5-7 days after the surgery⠀
.⠀

14. You will have a catheter in when you have your c section but they insert this when you are already numb (so you don’t feel a thing ) and when they take it out (usually 24 hours later) it is completely painless.
